Community Focus – March 30, 2016

The Educational Excellence Foundation has two big events in April, the annual Showcase of Grants and the annual Wine Tasting, Strolling Dinner and Auction.  The Showcase of Grants is Thursday April 7, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Liberty Middle School in Canton.  The Wine Tasting, Dinner and Auction is Friday April 22, from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m. at Fox Hills Golf and Banquet Center in Plymouth.  Bill Keith spoke with EEF Executive Director Gretchen Ward and Board Member Jim Harb about the foundation and the two events.

African American Student Association Spring Break Bus Trip

AAA HBCU Trip Group Shot88.1 the Park is pleased to support the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park African American Student Association Spring Break Bus Trip to Historically Black Colleges and University.   The station helped sponsor the trip by providing scholarship money for students attending the trip.  The students will also be visiting historic civil rights sites.

Michigan Philharmonic 70th Anniversary Concert Live on 88.1 the Park

Michigan Philharmonic FlyerLightsCCPoster(PARK)-page-001The Michigan Philharmonic will celebrate their 70th Anniversary with a special concert called “Lights, Camera, Concert.”   The concert will celebrate movie music from Back to the Future,  Vertigo, West Side Story and Schindler’s List.  The concert is Saturday April 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Salem High School Auditorium.

88.1 the Park is pleased to partner with the Michigan Philharmonic on a live broadcast of the concert.  “The Michigan Philharmonic is a wonderful part of the Plymouth Canton Community and were excited to offer this special concert broadcast to our listeners,” said Bill Keith, Station Manager.

88.1 Alums Take Over Airwaves – Saturday March 19

AprilPattyAlumniDay88.1 the Park will hand over control of the airwaves to the station’s alumni on Saturday March 19 for Alumni On-Air Day.  Listen from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as former staff members share some of their favorites, along with music the station played over the past four decades.

Staff members from all eras of the station’s history will stop by to share music and memories.

Caitlin Flora is 88.1 The Park’s February 2016 Staff Member of the Month

Caitlin Kaley and Michael in session88.1 is pleased to honor Caitlin Flora, Salem Senior, as the Staff Member of the Month for February.

Caitlin has been a member of the staff since her Freshman year.  She has served as the station’s Music Director.  This year she is Program Director, the top student leadership position at the station.  She also co-hosts All the Small Things on Monday nights with Kaley Ross.  Her work with the station has been honored by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation.

“I can’t believe that Caitlin’s four year’s with the station is almost over,” said Bill Keith, Station Manager.  “She’s become a very talented leader at the station and we appreciate her hard work and dedication.  She has big shoes for our next Program Director to fill.”
