Staff Member of the Month – September 2017
Congratulations to Emma Menebroker and Anna Brandl. They were selected as 88.1 the Park’s Staff Members of the Month for September 2017.
Emma is the station’s Sports Director. She was recognized for her hard work bringing organization to the station’s Sports Department. She can be heard hosting daily sportscasts, broadcasting football or hosting the Women’s Sports Report.
“Emma is doing an incredible job as our Sports Director,” said Bill Keith, Station Manager. “I was especially impressed by the hard work she put into our first Women’s Sports Report this fall. She’s done a great job at involving all members of the sports department to create a great show.”
Anna Brandl can be heard as DJ Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 a.m. and Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. She is also a member of the station’s Promotions team and has even volunteered to engineer a couple live sports broadcasts.
“Anna is always willing to do what needs to be done to help the station,” said Keith. “This fall we needed someone to help with our live sports broadcasts and Anna was quick to offer her help as an engineer for football games. She is also becoming a very good on-air announcer.”
88.1 the Park to Unveil Vinyl Recall Exhibit
To mark 45 years of broadcasting excellence at 88.1 The Park, WSDP presents “Vinyl Recall,” an exhibit of iconic albums that have influenced the station’s sound and its student-staff since 1972.
The exhibit, sponsored by Pat Milliken Ford in Redford, will be held at PARC-Plymouth Arts & Recreation Complex on Church Street in Plymouth, Michigan. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The exhibit will be open October 24 through November 16 from 4-8 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The exhibit will also be open on Saturday, October 28; November 4; and November 11 from 3-5 pm.
“The exhibit is an opportunity to give back to the community that has supported the station for 45 years,” explained Bill Keith, WSDP station manager. “We reached out to station alums to help determine the most iconic 45 albums in the station’s history. These albums represent the music that has influenced the students who worked at the station, and by extension the music that shaped the Plymouth-Canton community,” Keith added.

88.1 the Park Euchre Tournament Supports Student Radio
An evening of Playing Euchre, making new friends and supporting the community will be in the cards when 88.1 The Park hosts their 6th Annual Euchre Tournament on Saturday October 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the Plymouth Elks Club.
Players can enjoy an evening of Euchre and support the student radio program that has been impacting students and serving the community for over 45 years.
The Tournament was created by 88.1 Alum Denny Kapp.
“I’ve enjoyed playing in tournaments and decided to share the idea with WSDP’s Alumni Committee. They thought this might be something we could do on an annual basis and we’re excited to bring it back for a sixth year,” said Kapp, a Westland resident.
The tournament costs $20 per player, if they register before October 3, and $25 at the door. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top 10% of the field. Players will enjoy pizza, snacks and a cash bar.
“The tournament has grown every year and it helps a really great program. 88.1 gave me a head start into a career working in sports media. I learned how to cover a team through my broadcasts of Canton and Salem games. I’m glad to be able to still help the station,” said Kapp.
You can sign up by emailing [email protected] or by calling 248-WSDPEUCHRE (973-7382).
WSDP is owned and operated by the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. The station is staffed by students at Canton, Plymouth and Salem High Schools.
