88.1 the Park Announces New Student Leaders for 2017/2018
88.1 the Park is fortunate to have two excellent students taking on major leadership roles at the station for the 2017/2018 school year.
Serafine Hinz and Fiona Hughes will share the top student leadership position. Serafine will serve as Operations Manager and Fiona will take on the role of Program Director. They will work together to provide leadership for the station’s directors.
“We are lucky to have Serafine and Fiona in these roles,” said Bill Keith, Station Manager. “They care deeply about the station and want to see us become even better at serving the community. I look forward to seeing how the station grows under their leadership.”
Fiona and Serafine have big shoes to fill as they take over for current Program Director, Amanda Barberena. Amanda will be attending Michigan State University in the fall.
The station will fill other directorships following interviews on Monday April 24.
88.1 the Park Auction – Saturday May 20
You can support 88.1 The Park by bidding on a Grand Hotel Golf Outing and many more items during the 29th annual Radio Auction on Saturday, May 20th from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
88.1 The Park will broadcast the auction and listeners will be able to call in and bid on items donated by local businesses, with new items available every half-hour. There will be great items to bid on, including autographed memorabilia, restaurant gift cards, and services from local businesses. A Dream Board with more unique items will be available for bidding all day.
Last year, the station raised over $17,000 and this year’s goal is $18,000.

88.1 Alums Take Over the Airwaves – Saturday March 18
88.1 the Park will hand over control of the airwaves to the station’s alumni on Saturday March 18, for Alumni On-Air Day. Listen from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as former staff members share some of their favorites, along with music the station played over the past four decades.
Staff members from all eras of the station’s history will stop by to share music and memories.

P-CEP Choirs Live on 88.1 the Park – March 28, at 7:00 p.m.
88.1 the Park will broadcast the P-CEP Choir’s “A Festival Concert” on Tuesday March 28, at 7:00 p.m. The concert will feature music that seven of their choirs performed at the MSVMA Choral Concert, along with a performance from their show choir, Encore. You’ll also hear several choir clubs that meet after school.
“Canton, Plymouth and Salem High Schools have wonderful music programs,” said Bill Keith, Station Manager. “We’re excited to shine a spotlight on these talented choirs.”
The P-CEP Choirs are under the direction of Jennifer Neumann, Jonathan Lunneberg, Amy Boerma, and Cathy DePentu.
88.1 the Park Staff Members Shine at State Awards
The Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation honored 11 Plymouth-Canton Educational Park students in their annual High School and College Awards Competition. The MABF presented the awards during the Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference and Expo on Wednesday March 8, 2017 in Lansing.
P-CEP students received 11 of the 30 awards presented in the high school radio category. The students received five first place awards in the 11 categories.
“Our students continue to amaze us each year. They are consistently among the best in the state and we couldn’t be prouder,” said Bill Keith, Station Manager.
The MABF received almost 700 High School and College entries in the radio and television competition. The entries came from from over 30 schools.
Plymouth Senior Amanda Barberena also received the WXYZ-TV Broadcasting Scholarship at the conference. She was recognized among current college students for this special honor.
“Amanda is so deserving of this recognition. She is a wonderful leader at our radio station and her impact at 88.1 will be felt for many years. We are lucky to have her on our staff,” said Keith.
