The Michigan Philharmonic will celebrate their 70th Anniversary with a special concert called “Lights, Camera, Concert.”   The concert will celebrate movie music from Back to the Future,  Vertigo, West Side Story and Schindler’s List.  The concert is Saturday April 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Salem High School Auditorium.

88.1 the Park is pleased to partner with the Michigan Philharmonic on a live broadcast of the concert.  “The Michigan Philharmonic is a wonderful part of the Plymouth Canton Community and were excited to offer this special concert broadcast to our listeners,” said Bill Keith, Station Manager.

88.1 the Park will hand over control of the airwaves to the station’s alumni on Saturday March 19 for Alumni On-Air Day.  Listen from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. as former staff members share some of their favorites, along with music the station played over the past four decades.

Staff members from all eras of the station’s history will stop by to share music and memories.

88.1 is pleased to honor Caitlin Flora, Salem Senior, as the Staff Member of the Month for February.

Caitlin has been a member of the staff since her Freshman year.  She has served as the station’s Music Director.  This year she is Program Director, the top student leadership position at the station.  She also co-hosts All the Small Things on Monday nights with Kaley Ross.  Her work with the station has been honored by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters Foundation.

“I can’t believe that Caitlin’s four year’s with the station is almost over,” said Bill Keith, Station Manager.  “She’s become a very talented leader at the station and we appreciate her hard work and dedication.  She has big shoes for our next Program Director to fill.”

The Park Players will present their final performances of “Nice Work If You Can Get It” this weekend.  88.1 the Park will be there live on Friday March 18.  Stop by our tent before and after the 7:00 p.m. performance to say hi to our staff and pick up 88.1 the Park pens and stickers.

You’ll also have a chance to throw your name in a drawing to win a gift certificate for lunch at the Rock Cafe and an 88.1 the Park T-Shirt.

Congratulations to Zain Omair.  Zain, a Canton Junior, is 88.1 The Park’s January 2016 Staff Member of the Month.

Zain was recognized for her hard work on our news staff and her dedication to her weekly radio show.

“We are lucky to have Zain on our staff,” said Bill Keith, Station Manager, “She often covers for other staff members, comes in early to get her news reports filed, and is quickly becoming one of our best DJ’s.  She always gives her best on everything she does for the station.”
