Moments with Merritt – January 2024

Liberty Middle School 8th grade English teacher, Hawanya Urquhart, is an example of our wonderful staff.  This past Fall, Hawanya was named Michigan Middle School English Teacher of the Year for 2023 for her continued commitment to student success and excellence.  The Michigan Council of Teachers of English award recognizes Hawanya’s dedication to student success and fostering a nurturing and effective learning environment.

For this edition of Moments with Merritt, P-CCS Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Monica Merritt, welcomed Ms. Urquhart and one of her former students, Plymouth High School Freshman, MaKenzie Dunham.

Moments with Merritt – December 2023

Vaibav Ramu, a senior at Plymouth High School, has achieved a rare and commendable feat.  Vaibav scored a perfect score on the Advanced Placement Microeconomics exam. This is a testament to his hard work, as Vaibav is among only 44 students globally to have scored a perfect score on this challenging exam.  Dr. Monica Merritt welcomed Vaibav and Canton High School Microeconomics Teacher, Jeffrey Richards for this edition of Moments with Merritt.

Moments with Merritt – September 2023

A new school year brings excitement for students, teachers, administrators and families. This year’s theme for Plymouth-Canton Community Schools is “Reach Higher.” P-CCS Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Monica Merritt, talks about the new school year with three new Principals and three students. Her guests include Eriksson Elementary Principal Michelle Lee, Bentley Elementary Principal Edward Latour and Plymouth High School Principal Greg Anglin. The student guests are Eriksson 3rd grader Emmitt Smothers, Bentley 5th grader La’Meir Hall and Plymouth Senior Elise Taylor.

Moments with Merritt will air September 5, 12, 19 and 26 at 5:40 p.m.

Moments with Merritt – November/December 2022

Plymouth-Canton Educational Park is home to three great high schools and many award winning extra-curricular programs. Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Superintendent, Dr. Monica L. Merritt spoke with two of the Park’s Principals, Kim Villarosa (Salem) and David Reed-Nordwall (Canton) about changes with the attendance policy, Advisory periods, resources available to students and much more.

The program will air Tuesday November 29, December 6, 13, and 20 at 5:40 p.m.

Moments with Merritt – October 2022

The start of a new school year brings excitement and a commitment to help P-CCS students learn, prepare and thrive.  Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Monica Merritt, invited a couple staff members and a student to talk about the work that goes into a return to school.  Her guests include George Hill, Bird Elementary School Principal, Tara Botosan, Liberty Middle School Math Teacher, and Mady Bajorek, Salem Senior.
