Moments with Merritt - Monica MerrittMoments with Merritt will spotlight the great things happening in the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools.  88.1 The Park Station Manager Bill Keith talked with Interim Superintendent, Monica Merritt about her new role with the district.  Ms. Merritt is also the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Labor Relations.  They talked about many things including her background in education, contract negotiations with teachers and other employee groups, state funding for education, and the achievement gap.

The interview will air on Tuesday Jan. 19, 26, Feb. 2, and 9 at 5:45 p.m.

Community Focus – January 13, 2016

The National Honor Society at Plymouth-Canton Educational Park hosts the SJ5K every May.  The run helps families that are dealing with a medical crisis.  Since 2011 The run has raised over $230,000 to aid 14 families in the Plymouth-Canton Community.  Saba Mangla spoke with Charlotte Clark, the student organizer of the 2016 run, and Marc Whitlock, who represents a family that benefited from last year’s run.

Community Focus – January 6, 2016

In the Band Music Appreciation Studio is a new non profit group operating out of the Plymouth Arts and Recreation Complex (PARC), formerly Central Middle School.  On this edition of Community Focus Bill Keith speaks with Nick Brandon, Founder and Director, and Aaron Mihalko, Co-Director about their efforts to support 7th – 12th grade students as they form local bands.  In the Band Music Appreciation Studio will provide rehearsal space, educational programs and opportunities to listen to classic albums.

Community Focus – December 16, 2015

Max Jenkins interviews Sheila Weber, Counselor at Liberty Middle School, about the middle school mentoring program “Where Everyone Belongs.”  WEB pairs 8th grade students with incoming 6th graders to help the new students make a smooth transition to middle school.  They talked about the history of the program, plans for this year and opportunities for next year’s mentors.
