Bob Delano – The Film Foundry
I hope this holiday season finds you and the entire WSDP healthy and in good spirits. I’ve been meaning to write you for some time to let you know how much I enjoy being on your mailing list, and look forward to the day when I can again listen to my first radio station on the web. After my time at WSDP (1972-1975) I went on to a stint with the Armed Forces Radio Network. The bulk of that time was spent at AFKN in Seoul as a network news announcer with a bit of time on the side as the morning DJ doing top 40 at the only English speaking station in a city of nearly 6 million people. After six years in the army, I went on to positions at WBWA in Northern Wisconsin (morning DJ & Program Director), WTCM AM/FM in Traverse City (Morning DJ & Football Play-by-Play), KNEM in Western Missouri (General Manager & Play-by-Play) and KLKT at Lake Tahoe/Reno (Morning Show Co-Host & News Director). I moved from radio to television post-production about 15 years ago, and have had a pretty good run as a film/video editor. My family and I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, a little over ten years ago when I took a position with ESPN Regional, moving into the Senior Editor position, and eventually General Manager. I left ESPN in 1997 to open a film and video finishing facility in Charlotte. Our name changed to The Film Foundry this past January (www.thefilmfoundry.com), and I split my time between managerial duties and time in our big on-line suite. The entire career can be traced back to my time at WSDP. The skills learned were important, the chance to develop a love and passion for radio (and eventually video) were pivotal in my life story, the friendships and memories of fellow staff members a crucial part of who I am, and the patience shown by people like Jeff Cardinal, John Seidelman and Bonnie Dore was simply amazing. The more I reflect on my time at WSDP, the more amazing their patience becomes! With all that said, let me add my sincere wishes for a happy holiday season and for a new year that is rich with blessings for you and the entire WSDP family. Sometimes I wonder if folks at the district office understand just how powerful a tool WSDP is, and the lasting powerful effect it has had on the students over its 30-year history! Merry Christmas!
